I made this visualisation of a one-way ANOVA honestly just because I was so mindblown when I heard how Prof Mike Cheung explained it when I was a tutor for one of his courses. I originally posted this on Twitter (or I guess X now) but who knows what’s happening on that platform anymore so I figured I’d put this up here as well. The video is meant to be self-explanatory, in terms of how the output you receive when you run an ANOVA test in SPSS/R/JASP or your environment of choice relates to the data you give it (context being that it’s a study looking at the effect of different kinds of treatment on participants’ level of anxiety). The whole thing was done in Apple’s Keynote App (both on desktop and iPad — just for the handwritten bits, the iPad was not strictly necessary). I will note, however, that the video is a little fast for my liking, which was the case because it had to fit in Twitter’s time limit for videos. Can I change it? Yes. Will I do it? Maybe. Until then, it’s easy enough to just tweak the video playback settings to your preference. Okay bye.
